I am a Debian Project Manager

Apparently, anyway.

It's the second time in less than two months that I appear in the list of speakers for a congress or party... without being informed at all. Sergio Talens pointed me this morning at the Campus Party's webpage (flash crap, sorry), where they announce the presence of Jordi Mallach, "Debian Project Manager", who will give courses and conferences, "warranting a very high level". Great. Please, can anyone mail me and tell me what am I supossed to talk about? Thanks. :)

Santa Pola

Today's triathlon was the first I was really happy about my result. Santa Pola is a 2:30h away from València, and we had to get up scarily early to be in time for the boxes check. We left at 6AM, which meant getting up at 4:45... insane.

Santa Pola's is a nice triathlon. Today was the second edition and for the first time I could repeal the blows in the water more or less ok, managed to get in the group before me in the cycling segment, and ran at around 4mins/km in the final segment, ending with a quite ok (for me) 1:06:00 mark in a sprint distance. The following triathlons are all olympic distance, let's see if I keep it up.

Nano and UTF-8

It's been a few weeks since I last posted, but I saw Martin-Éric laments about the lack of UTF-8 support in GNU nano. Yes, it's unfortunate that the current stable version is lacking this feature, but don't despair, the development branch (1.3.x) will soonish have it, as David is completing the internal work that was needed to make this possible. As soon as Sarge freezes, I'll consider switching unstable's nano to 1.3.x, as it's quite stable and carries some good fixes in a number of areas.

Martin, I was sorry to read about your wife's miscarriage. I hope both of you are well.

Adios, abuela

My grandmother died on Monday.

Even if this had been expected by us since her health got worse three weeks ago, you couldn't give up hope with my grandmother. She had been fighting rheumatoid arthritis for over 30 years, and had overgone some grave health problems when even my mother thought she had no chance. This time it was too much, and a complication with her lungs has taken her away. She didn't suffer at all, as she mostly fell asleep as she dimmed down, and was surrounded by her sons and daughters. It's the first time I lose a direct family member, so it's being quite difficult to accept it. Now my worries are with my grandfather who is now alone, after so many years of common life. Luckily, both of them have strong catholic beliefs so it's probably easier for them to accept the death of a relative. It's not so easy for the rest of us...

Thanks for all the lessons taught, all the good moments shared with your grandsons. I'm going to miss you, abuela. :(

What he blogs about

FWIW, I like jfleck's blog entries and I would like to be able to read them in Planet GNOME. Many people think, and I agree with them, that the Planets contents don't need to be related to what the planet community is about, but about what the individual community members do in general, computer related or not. John's writings about Global Warming and of course cycling are nice to read. I should write more about triathlon. :)

Claxon hell has stopped a bit in Valencia after two horrible days, with thousands of people collapsing the city and annoying us who don't care much with continuous car horn noise. The bad thing is that it's quite likely to happen again if Valencia wins the UEFA Cup as well in little more than one week. Aaargh.

I really want a real Spring. Since the season started, it has been raining intermittently every few days of decent weather. Come one, this is not what Spain is about!

We have ordered DSL, ending the era of a 56kbps link to the Internet at my mother's. I hope Wanadoo isn't too crappy.

Ranty and ErConde

Just learned about this. I have no words... :(

My condolences to the families and friends.

1st Free Software Congress in Valencia

The first edition of the Valencian Free Software Congress finished yesterday. Sergio and I have had a very nice time with Andreas Tille from Debian-Med, and Free Ekanayaka from DeMuDi, and had nice talks with them on Custom Debian Distributions, which is what our work will be focused on from now.

We also met Jon "maddog" Hall and had a few beers with him, a time when he would start telling some cool stories of his long experience in the Free Software Community. As in the Malaga meeting, the Congress ended with a quite luxurious dinner at the Oceanogràfic complex. Poor Jon nearly got asleep while waiting for our second plate, heheh. Hopefully the congress will happen again next year and we can meet people in Valencia.

I do care, Amaya!

Sooo, when you say you prefer Valencian, do you mean it's a variant of the Catalan language, or a completely separate language? People around here are still puzzled by your previous statement on the subject ;)

Oh, and why do they call it Catalonian when they really mean Catalan?
